Traditional wet markets in China are getting disrupted by e-commerce companies.

From their very low base, China's online sales in grocery retail skyrocketed, growing at 45% annually from 2012 to 2017. 

To grow the sector, Chinese internet companies like Tencent, Alibaba and JD.com have been acquiring and teaming up with bricks-and-mortar stores. 

While young consumers are quickly adapting to this trend, the older generation of Chinese shoppers still prefers buying their groceries in shops and wet markets.
